Pasta, a dish best served at home

Lately, I’ve been feeling dissatisfied with eating out. It’s been too frequent and a lot of the time, I feel like it’s just not been worth the price. To be fair, it’s been a lot of meals out with friends or on vacation but this week axel and I are challenging ourselves to not eat out at all. I leave town for the weekend Friday so the goal is to eat every meal at home until then.

I’ve been especially disappointed every time I’ve ordered pasta at a restaurant. I feel like good pasta is easy enough to make at home and amazing pasta is rare to find at restaurants. On this night, I made lemon pepper pasta with lemon pepper chicken and green beans. The sauce is very simple and light, just butter, lemon juice, garlic, salt, and pepper. At a restaurant, this dish plus a glass of wine would probably run $30+ and I would probably feel pressured to eat more of it than I usually would. That’s the other part of eating out that I don’t like, that you usually eat less healthily and with larger portions just by virtue of being at a restaurant.

Not to say that I am done eating out forever. I am still a foodie! But I think we just need to take a step back and stop turning to restaurants as a default. I want to go back to the maya’s tiny kitchen days (iykyk) at least for a little bit. We also finally decided to book a trip in august so will be saving for that as well. And it’s been really nice to only have a 9-5 and not have classwork to do for the summer. I feel like I can truly log off at the end of the day and relax, which I never truly feel like I can do during the semester. This is also our first full summer in LA and it is just such a major improvement over being in Arizona that I can’t help but feel that the higher cost of living is well worth it- I never want to go through another AZ summer
